Marathon Monday!

Image
The Race They call it "Marathon Monday".  I got up at 5:50 am.  Adrienne made sure I got everything I needed.  It was comforting having her there.  I had a gingerbread poptart and banana.  Same as my first marathon in 2007.  I drank lots of water between then and the race start. I had to shower.  I don't like racing if I'm not clean before I start.  Then, I went to the bus downstairs. Adrienne used a pass that the Wards had to watch the finish from the Grandstands. The bus ride was incredible.  Usually that is not the case in Boston.  It takes so long to get around town because of stop lights and one-way streets.  However, we had a police escort.  The lights were ignored and traffic was all stopped as we moved along.  We got on the freeway and a police motorcycle would drive ahead to keep traffic from entering the freeway while other patrol cars stayed behind us to keep people from passing us.  As we left...

The Day After

Travel Home Since Adrienne's flight was last minute, she couldn't get on mine, so I left at 9:30am and she hung out with the Ward's all day and did a Duck Boat Tour.  They drive around the city seeing the sites, then the bus drives into the ocean and becomes a boat.  They had lunch at the hotel and visited some places with the Saucony rep.  I felt good knowing she was traveling with Jared who knows how to get around an airport.  I'm about to go pick her up now from SLC. We will be sleeping well tonight! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.

Sunday

Breakfast Larry and MaryLyn took me to breakfast.  We went to Pignone's for breakfast in Woburn.  https://www.zomato.com/boston/pignones-cafe-stoneham/menu Church I had wheat pancakes with blueberries.  I've tried for a month to eat healthier and will be glad when I can just eat a big burger or something after the race.  We went to church next to the Boston temple. With it being Easter Sunday, there was an extra musical number.  The first number was excellent.  The second was Bach Air with a violin, viola, and a cello.  The rhythmic nature of Bach was very calming (sounds like I know music right, but MaryLyn described it that way).  She was right though. After church, Larry dropped me off at the technical meeting at the meet hotel (The Fairmont Copley).  I met up with Coach Eyestone, Bob Wood (Jared's agent), and Jared.  The technical meeting is where they tell the elites all the details of race day.  I learned some nice b...

Saturday

Departure and Arrival Adrienne took me to the airport for a direct flight that left at 8:35.  Little did I know, there was quite a story about that that I'll share on Sunday's post.  I was lucky 5 times on Saturday. 1) TSA precheck made things very quick.  I had a Nanohydr8 shot for the startline that I wanted to use, but I thought it might be too big to bring through security.  I guess the lady thought it was fine, so I had my pre-race nutrition. 2) I went straight to the gate and asked if any exit row seats were available.  There was one! 3) When I was waiting for the flight, Mary showed up with her husband and in-laws.  She is an athletic trainer that helped me out a few times when I needed treatment at BYU.  She was so excited for the race.  She is about 5' 5" and married a BYU football player that she met in the training room.  He is very tall and large!  They are a great match though.  Turns out their seats were on my row...
