Saturday
Departure and Arrival
Adrienne took me to the airport for a direct flight that left at 8:35. Little did I know, there was quite a story about that that I'll share on Sunday's post. I was lucky 5 times on Saturday.1) TSA precheck made things very quick. I had a Nanohydr8 shot for the startline that I wanted to use, but I thought it might be too big to bring through security. I guess the lady thought it was fine, so I had my pre-race nutrition.
2) I went straight to the gate and asked if any exit row seats were available. There was one!
3) When I was waiting for the flight, Mary showed up with her husband and in-laws. She is an athletic trainer that helped me out a few times when I needed treatment at BYU. She was so excited for the race. She is about 5' 5" and married a BYU football player that she met in the training room. He is very tall and large! They are a great match though. Turns out their seats were on my row. So, I had someone to visit with the whole time along with watching the Jason Bourne movie.
4) We landed 20 minutes early and got straight to the gate.
5) Larry, our financial adviser picked me up at the airport so I didn't have to worry about what to do. He took me straight to the expo to pick up my number. His wife, MaryLyn became my agent. She knew here to take me to get everything. When there was a line, she just went up front and said, "This is one of the elite athletes. He needs to get (this and that). They always listened to her and we just moved through everything so quickly.
Once I had a name instead of a number, we had access to everything that I didn't feel like I deserved, but Michael Pieroni (the elite athlete coordinator) thought I did, so I went with it.
We watched a course preview video which reminded me of what I'd seen in the course three weeks ago when Jared and I came out to train (we did the first 25 miles of the course that day). So, I had a good race plan figured out and was reminded of it with the course preview.
We went to the Marriott, I went for a short run (I hadn't thought about it prior, but after all the months of training realized as soon as I stopped that the training is done!), and then we went to an Italian restaurant that Larry likes to go to on this trip.
I took half a sleeping pill and had a good sleep.
